Arupadai Veedu temples of Lord Muruga

The six most sacred abodes of Hindu god Lord Murugan known as Aarupadai Veedu in Tamil literature. They are situated in the state of Tamil Nadu in south India.The god is also known as Karthikeya, Skanda, Vadivela and Guha. The six most sacred abodes of Lord Muruga were mentioned in the Tamil literature Thirumurugatrupadai, written by Nakeerar, and in Thirupugal, written by Arunagirinathar.In Hinduism the gods Shiva, Shakthi, Vishnu, Ganesh, Muruga, Surya are the six main gods and the supreme gods for the six sub-religions of Hinduism. According to Kaumaram Lord Skanda is the supreme god, as told in Skandapuranam. The six abodes are Tirupparamkunram, Thiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Thiruthani, Pazhamudircholai. 

1.Tiruvavinankudi Temple in Pazhani
This temple is the first among the six Holy Abodes.The Murugan idol was made by Bogar from an amalgam of nine toxic substances (Navabaashaanam)

2.Swamimalai Murugan Temple in Swami Malai
This temple is the second among the six Holy Abodes. Lord Murugan explained the meaning of Omkaram to his father Lord Siva here.

3.Sri Subramanya Swami Temple in Tiruchendur
This is the third among the six Holy Abodes and the only seashore Murugan temple. It is here that Surasamharam takes place, as this temple was Murugan's battle camp against the asura Surapadman who was being hosted at Vira Mahendram, a mid-ocean fortress.

4.Tirupparankundram Temple in Tirupparankundram
Lord Murugan married Deivanai at this abode, also is the fourth among the Six Holy Abodes of Murugan (Arupadai Veedu, literally "Six Battle Camps")

5.Tiruttanikai Murugan Temple in Tiruttani
Lord Murugan married Valli at this abode. This temple is the fifth among the six Holy Abodes. Lord Murugan imparted the knowledge of Tamil to Sage Agathiyar here

6.Pazhamudhircholai Temple in Pazhamudhircholai
This temple is the last one of the six Holy Abodes. Lord Murugan tested Avvaiyar's knowledge under a tree here.
